Despite Typhoon “Ursula” pounding Aklan last month, leaving behind P65 million worth of damages, the Department of Education-Division of Aklan (DepEd-Aklan) and the provincial government announced they are ready to host the 2020 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet, which is set to run from February 15 to 22 at the Calangcang Sports Complex in Makato.
Opening ceremonies are scheduled to take place on February 16, where DepEd Undersecretary for Field Operations Revsee A. Escobedo and Senator Christopher Lawrence ‘Bong’ Go are expected to attend.
Over 7,000 student-athletes, coached, and local officials are expected to participate in events such as archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, billiard, boxing, chess, football, futsal, gymnastics, paralympics, speak takraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, wrestling, wushu, pencak silat, and dancesport./ASC, WDJ
