Boracay draws over 2M tourists

The island of Boracay received over two million tourists in 2019, an increase of 116 percent over the arrivals figure in 2018.

Records from the Aklan Provincial Tourism Office (APTO) showed that Boracay registered a total of 2,034,599 tourist arrivals last year. The year before that, a total of 941,868 visitors came.

Foreign visitors listed in 2019 reached 1,037,619, while 932,433 domestic tourists were recorded with overseas Filipinos recorded at 64,547.

Chinese and Koreans were the top two foreign nationals who visited Boracay last year with 434,175 and 400,610 arrivals, respectively. They comprised 80 percent or 834,785 arrivals of the total foreign tourist visitors.

Also included in the top 10 foreign nationalities who visited the island came from Taiwan with 30,634; United States of America, 24,827; United Kingdom, 13,715; Australia, 12,785; Russia, 12,784; Japan, 11,474; Saudi Arabia, 10,789; and Germany, 7,441.

Records also showed that the 2.034 million tourist arrivals generated for the island a total of P58,182,166,614.30 in tourism receipts of which P41,540,195,673.60 came from foreign and overseas Filipinos while P16,641,970,940.70 came from domestic tourists. (PIA Aklan)
