“No Parking” are words most Bacolod City motorists see. However, have local traffic authorities thought about establishing appropriate and sensible parking spaces? Drivers waste a lot of fuel driving around looking for areas to park and, with the idea of diagonal parking likely not entering the minds of those in charge, authorities likely set up “No Parking” signs out of convenience.
Businesses lose money without parking spaces.
In a column I penned last November entitled “How to avoid road accidents,” I suggested: “The community will see a better aura is signs instead said ‘Park Here’ or ‘Turn Here.’” Have traffic authorities and their superiors given any though on such concerns?
What happened to the traffic experiment for southbound jeepneys? It has since been taken away and the public was not given a reason for the decision. Was it driven by business interest or politics? The public deserves a sensible explanation especially since the rerouting scheme was a good move.
Traffic authorities have also failed to identify loading/unloading zones, designated parking spaces, among other such specifications. Additionally, traffic enforcers are hesitant to reprimand drivers of luxury vehicles and focus on dilapidated ones, including tricycles, why is that? 27th Street is a “ningas kugon.” Despite a traffic ordinance prohibiting left turns, traffic authorities have taken it for granted and chaotic road order continues.
Meanwhile, when will the local government conduct roadwork along Magsaysay Avenue, Hilado Street, Narra Avenue, Lopez Jaena Street, Tindalo Avenue, Henares Street, 10th Street, among others? Vehicles are forced to slow down due to the cracked roads.
