Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) spokesperson, Police Lt. Colonel Ariel Pico, yesterday affirmed BCPO director, Police Colonel Henry Biñas, recommended Police Major Ruel Culanag and several other police officers for reassignment following the escape of four prisoners at Police Station 3 (PS3).
According to Pico, aside from Culanag, the station’s former deputy commander, Police Lieutenant Virgel Valdepeña, was ordered to provide a written explanation over the incident.
Additionally, they were informed their explanations will be used as a basis for administrative sanctions.
However, with the recent seizure of P18 million of suspected shabu by PS3, there is possibility the recommendation for Culanag to be relieved and transferred will likely influence Biñas’ recommendation.
The police spokesperson added, the decision now falls under Police Regional Office-6 (PRO-6) director, Police Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan.
“It is up to our regional director,” Pico stated. “He has the final say.”
Meanwhile, the BCPO investigation and detection management unit is also expected to release their report regarding the investigation within the week.
Last week, four PS3 inmates, identified as Sunny Capa, Ely Lorence Sazon, Michael Peñoso, and Jeffrey Elangos, managed to escape from their jail cell.
After spending two days on the run, the four eventually surrendered to police./DGB, WDJ
