The Environmental Management Bureau-Region VI (EMB-6) is closely monitoring the ashfall generated by the ongoing eruption of the Taal Volcano in Batangas.
EMB-6 officer-in-charge, Engr. Ronald Limua, explained most of the ashfall is presently heading north in Luzon.
With current wind patterns showing a southwesterly track, which is caused by a low pressure area located east of the country, EMB-6 is closely watching to see if the wind direction changes back to the northeast monsoon, or “Amihan.”
The government agency is now preparing monitoring stations in the region to gather particulate matter from the ashfall.
Limua added, ashfall depends on wind direction, ash volume, and wind speed./DGB, WDJ
