Two earthquakes struck the Western Visayas recently with a 2.2-magnitude quake detected early Tuesday morning near Escalante City in Negros Occidental, followed by a 3.0-magnitude tremor later that morning near Bingawan, Iloilo.
According to bulletins from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, the first earthquake struck just south of the Negros Occidental at 1:55 a.m., while the subsequent tremor was detected around 8:06 a.m.
The agency reported no damages as a result of the seismic activity nor were there any anticipated aftershocks.
Earthquakes that range between 3.0 and 3.9 in magnitude are considered between a Level II and III on the Mercalli Intensity Scale, where a few people feel the tremor, particularly those on the upper floors of buildings; while quakes ranging between 1.0 and 3.0 in magnitude are often classified as a Level 1, where the tremor goes almost undetected./WDJ
