Brigadier General Benedict Arevalo will soon step down from his post as Philippine Army 303rd Infantry Brigade (303IB) commander after formally completing his term. He is set to be replaced by his deputy, Army Colonel Inocencio Pasaporte.
The outgoing commander’s next assignment will be at Philippine Army Headquarters as deputy chief of staff for education and training, or J8.
The turnover of command is set to take place tomorrow, December 12, around 10:00 a.m. at 303IB headquarters at Camp Major Nelson Gerona in Murcia’s Barangay Minoyan.
Brigadier General Eric Vinoya, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division, will serve as presiding officer during the ceremony.
Meanwhile, Arevalo discussed the accomplishments achieved during his over one year tenure, most notably, the army weakening the New People’s Army.
“We’re not saying that they are gone but they have dramatically weakened for the last one year in terms of arms capability and mass base support,” he stated.
Under his leadership, the army engaged in 28 encounters against the insurgency.
“Majority of those encounters were in our favor,” Arevalo added./DGB, WDJ
