Approximately 2.5 tons or 2,500 kilograms of expired imported meat products such as chicken and pork were turned over yesterday by a local food distributor to officials of the city’s Task Force Botagoy in Barangay Singcang-Airport.

Task force head Edward Martin Pinaga, said the expired meat products were stored by the local food distributor, which serves as a supplier for several supermarkets operating in the city.

The distributor opted to condemn and turn over the products with officials from the National Meat Inspection Service and the City Veterinarian Office, Pinaga revealed.

Turned over items include boxes of chicken legs, pork belly, and pork liver.

Pinaga said he later contacted the city’s Department of Public Services, which would then dispose the condemned products to the city’s dumpsite in Barangay Felisa.

The officials thanked the distributor for their cooperation, with Pinaga voicing that if they never acted such, the expired meat could infiltrate the markets and causehealth problems to consumers.

Pinaga also appealed to meat distributors and sellers in the city not to sell expired meat products, and instead turn them over to the task force for proper disposal./DGB, WDJ
