AdMU wins Game 1, nears three-peat

Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) edged closer to a three-peat last Saturday following their 91-77 win over the University of Santo Tomas (UST) in Game 1 on the 82nd men’s basketball finals at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Ilonggo forward Ferdinand ‘Thirdy’ Ravena III finished with 32 points for AdMU, with 18 coming in the opening half, along with five rebounds and three assists; meanwhile Angelo Kouame chipped in a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds; and Negrense point guard Samjosef Belangel contributed 12 markers.
AdMU surged to an 18-2 start behind Kouame and Ravena; however, UST managed to cut the deficit to single digits.
Despite Ravena later widening AdMU’s lead to 32-17, UST cut the deficit anew in the second period to 40-38 following consecutive hits from Mark Nonoy. AdMU then answered with triples from Belangel for a 54-39 edge at the half.
