The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters kept their playoffs hopes alive after an 83-81 upset over the Meralco Bolts in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup last night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Richard Ross, Jr. posted a double-double for the Painters with 26 points and 12 rebounds, while Rey Nambatac chipped in 24 points, including three outside hits.
Down by as much as 13 points late in the third period, Rain or Shine kicked off a run in the fourth behind Ross and Nambatac to take a 71-69 lead following Mark Borboran’s basket.
The lead further grew to 82-77 after a triple from Nambatac and inside hits by Ross.
The Bolts rallied to within 83-81 and had a chance to win it but muffed their attempts.
The Painters closed the elimination round with a 4-7 win-loss record and tied with the Columbian Dyip.
Playoff placement will be determined after the Alaska Aces face NorthPort Batang Pier on Wednesday./ASC, WDJ
