SJI takes second place in regional finals

The St. John’s Institute (SJI) took second place in the 2019 Small Basketeers of the Philippines-Passerelle (SBP-Passerelle) regional finals over the weekend at the Pototan Astrodome in Pototan, Iloilo. SJI, who was representing Bacolod City, lost 40-35 to the University of the Visayas (UV).
UV were on top 26-20 after three quarters before SJI mounted a run early in the fourth to take a 35-32 lead following a triple from John Miguel Sy and a layup by Santino Loretizo. UV then replied with back-to-back triples from Denver Bisnar and Neil John Bernante to take a 38-35 with four seconds left. After an SJI turnover, UV sealed the win with two free throws.
