According to Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante, Jr., various investors are considering an expansion of their operations to Negros Occidental’s second legislative district. He explained, Tamiya, a locator based in the Mactan Economic Processing Zone (MEPZ) in Cebu visited Manapla, Cadiz City, and Sagay City, to check on the possibility of moving to the province.
“We brought them to the economic zone in Sagay and we hope to hear from them before the year ends,” the mayor said. “They will leave MEPZ by 2022 but, from what we hear from their comments during their visit, it is positive.”
Meanwhile, he said the Cadiz City-operated port reclamation project is now in its final phase.
“We expect to reclaim 100 hectares of land when the last phase is finished,” Escalante said. “[It] will cost P7 to P8 million,.”
The mayor said, once the cargo port is finished, it will serve as an international port, along with providing Negros a direct link to Batangas.
“There are other locators asking about Cadiz City,” he added. “There is Steel Asia, City Sports Inc., and Frabel Fishing.”/DGB, WDJ
