Iloilo City green and tourist guards, along with police auxiliary units, recently completed a “professionalization” training intended to help guide them on how to properly carry out their responsibilities.
“The city government made sure that the newly-hired field employees are capable of being first responders in any untoward incidents,” explained Executive Assistant Mark Ryan Acap.
According to Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, the newly-hired personnel were needed for both maintaining public safety and enforcing environmental regulations.
Aside from the recent training, the group was also subject to self-defense training and a paralegal seminar-workshop for anti-littering officers.
Earlier this month, it was announced that three Iloilo City tour guides are currently taking part in a four-month training with the Association of Iloilo DOT-Accredited Travel and Tour Operators, which will run until January.
“This will not only benefit the participants but as well as promote the rich culture and heritage of our beloved city to tourists,” explained special assistant to the mayor Maria Mathilde T. Octavio. “The selected employees have backgrounds in tourism.”
The program is designed to guide participants through skills-based workshops and help them apply elements of “effective tour-guiding.”/WDJ
