Iloilo City bars flower sales at cemetery entrances
In an effort to maintain clear and unobstructed roads, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas affirmed flower vendors will not be allowed to sell flowers at cemetery entrances during the All Souls’ Day and All Saints’ Day observance.
“Ang mga entrance pasulod sa mga sementaryo diri, private man ukon public, indi namon pag-allow magbutang sang structure nga mabaligya sang mga bulak and candles (Cemetery entrances here, whether public or private, we will not allow the placement of structures to sell flowers and candles),” stated Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) head Jeck Conlu. “Ang maga baligya outside dira dakpon naton (Any items being sold outside cemeteries will be confiscated).”
The PSTMO official said vendors will be permitted to sell at public markets, district plazas, and at the property owned by Don Alfonso Tan located at the corner of Iznart-Arroyo Streets in the city’s City Proper district.
However, selling at the designated areas will only be permitted from October 30 to November 2. In addition, vendors will only be allowed to set up in the afternoon and are required to acquire permits, including a barangay permit and business permit, before they can operate.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, the Bacolod City Market Coordinating and Monitoring Task Force requested the Sangguniang Panlungsod to pass a resolution allowing flower vendors to sell flowers along some public roads during the All Souls’ Day and All Saints’ Day observance.
Executive Assistant Ernesto Pineda, who heads the task force, said flower vendors have been selling their wares across the city for several years, including areas such as the Bacolod Public Plaza, along the Burgos Street, and in front of the Bacolod City Public Cemetery./DGB, WDJ
