Sancho: The hike is still ‘low’
By Dominique Gabriel G. Bañaga

General Alliance of Workers’ Association (GAWA), a local labor rights group, lauded the recent approval of a P30 wage increase in Western Visayas by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board. While GAWA Secretary-General Wennie Sancho called the hike “low” and insubstantial, the increase will provide relief for laborers in the region.
Based on the approval, those earning over P365 a day will get a P30 increase and covers both commercial and industrial sector firms who employ more than 10 workers.
A P15 wage increase was also provided for those who employ less than 10 workers, while those in the agricultural sector are entitled to a P20 hike./DGB, WDJ
