World boxing champion Donnie ‘Ahas’ Nietes is scheduled to attend the 1st Governor Eugenio Jose ‘Bong’ Lacson Open Boxing Provincial Championship, which begins today at the Murcia gymnasium. The event is scheduled to run until Friday, October 25.
Participants from across Negros are expected to take part in the tournament with athletes from Bacolod City, Escalante City, San Carlos City, Don Salvador Benedicto, Cadiz City, Sagay City, Manapla, Victorias City, Silay City, Talisay City, EB Magalona, Murcia, Bago City, La Carlota City, La Castellana, Himamaylan City, and Sipalay City; along with Bayawan City, Negros Oriental.
The tournament will be split into 22 weight classes in three brackets.
Bracket A, or the Kids 11-13 years old (Born 2006) division, includes cottonweight (26 kgs), kiddieweight (28 kgs), vacuumweight (30 kgs), antweight (32 kgs), minimumweight (34 kgs), and powderweight (36 kgs). Bracket B, or the School and Junior Boys 14-16 years old (Born 2003) division, includes light mosquitoweight (38 kgs), mosquitoweight (40 kgs), light paperweight (42 kgs), paperweight (44 kgs), light pinweight (46 kgs), pinweight (48 kgs), light flyweight (50 kgs), flyweight (52 kgs), and light bantamweight (54 kgs). Bracket C, or the Youth Boys 17-18 years old ( Born 2001) division, includes pinweight (48 kgs), light flyweight (50 kgs), flyweight (52 kgs), light bantamweight (54 kgs), bantamweight (56 kgs), light welterweight (60 kgs), and welterweight (64 kgs).
