After three firms earlier expressed interest in the proposed waste-to-energy facility in Iloilo City’s Mandurriao district, the number has since risen to 16.
The waste-to-energy facility is intended to address waste management issues, including indiscriminate littering, which has resulted in clogged drain pipes that cause flooding.
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas has sought advice from the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Center.
The proposal was reviewed by the PPP Center last August 14, while a PPP Selection Committee and Technical Working Group orientation workshop took place later that month.
Earlier, Treñas issued an executive order creating a PPP Selection Committee.
“There is a need to fast-track the implementation of PPP programs and projects to accelerate the infrastructure development of the city and sustain economic growth,” he explained.
In addition to the aforementioned project, other PPP proposals include upgrades to the city’s public markers, along with the establishment of a mixed-use horizontal development complex and sports arena./WDJ
