An estimated P1.1 million worth of pork siopao was intercepted Wednesday night by officials from the Provincial Anti-Swine Fever Task Force at Bacolod City’s Bredco Port.
Based on information provided by the task force, they made the discovery as the container truck carrying the products was about to leave. When authorities reviewed documents for the shipment, they found the items originated from Quezon City and were loaded at the Port of Manila bound for Cebu.
Once in Cebu, the container was loaded onto a ship bound for Bacolod City.
A total of 8,640 packs of pork siopao were seized.
Authorities suspect the shipper is from Mandaue City, Cebu and the siopao was supposed to be supplied to a food chain operating in Bacolod City.
Aside from the Bredco Port, task force personnel assigned at Bacolod-Silay Airport also intercepted 10 kilograms of assorted pork products from Pampanga, valued at P6,000, that same night.
The products were later destroyed./DGB, WDJ
