The NLEX Road Warriors nearly squandered a double-digit lead before escaping with a 117-111 victory over the Columbian Dyip in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup last night at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
NLEX surged to 16-2 start with early hits from Manny Harris, Ilonggo point guard Kiefer Ravena, and Pedrito Galanza. While the Dyip got to within 34-33 in the second, triples by Harris, Asi Taulava, and Philip Paniamogan gave NLEX a 54-44 halftime edge.
The Road Warriors went on to build its largest lead of 17 points in the third period after a basket from JR Quiñahan; however, the Dyip eventually pushed the game to a 106-all deadlock.
After seeing their lead disappear, Quinahan drained three free throws, while Harris scored inside, as the Road Warriors surged to a 111-106 count.
The Dyip made their final push with a layup from Jaymar Perez but free throws by Ravena and Harris, along with defensive stops on the other end, sealed victory for the Road Warriors.
Harris made his NLEX debut with 45 points, four steals, and three blocks; while Quinahan added 15 points; and Ravena chipped in 11./ASC, WDJ
