A caravan geared towards Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program beneficiaries recently stopped in Isabela, where farmers were encouraged to work with the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC).
“We are currently partnering with the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) because of our agricultural insurance program, which is beneficial among agrarian reform beneficiaries and farmers,” explained Julieby Monido, a PCIC insurance underwriter for the Negros Occidental fifth legislative district.
She explained, palay and corn crop insurance programs allows for farmers to file a report once crop losses reach 11 percent or higher due to natural calamities, plant diseases, and pest infestation.
The PCIC representative noted, livestock are also eligible for coverage, including cattle, carabao, horses, pigs, and goats.
“Farmer may have these animals insured,” she explained. “Up to 10 heads.”
The insurance policy covers death due to accidents, disease, among other associated risks.
Last month, as Sagay City celebrated the 4th Marang Festival, PCIC disbursed P131,000 in indemnity claims, or compensation for losses, to 30 beneficiaries./WDJ
