During a recent orientation in Bacolod City on the Philippine Anti-Illegal Drugs Strategy, an initiative of the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB), DDB Undersecretary Earl Saavedra said he forecasts drug-free communities springing up by 2022.
“We are really setting our eyes on 2022 creating drug-free communities,” he insisted. “We are doing our best to make things happen.”
The government official explained, his agency plans to formalize a “cohesive, comprehensive, and balanced strategy, aligned with international and regional frameworks, on drug prevention and control.”
Saavedra noted, such communities will be equipped for drug resilience in an effort to maintain a “drug-free” status.
Last August, the Regional Oversight Committee (ROC), through its Deliberation of the Barangay Drug Clearing Program, declared 206 barangays across the Western Visayas “cleared/officially declared unaffected.”
Earlier, the ROC revealed a total 349 Western Visayas barangays were declared “drug-cleared” since the clearing program began last year.
ROC hopes to see all barangays declared “drug-cleared” before 2022, when President Rodrigo Duterte’s term ends./WDJ
