Responding to the news that former Ozamiz City police chief, Police Lt. Colonel Jovie Espenido, was assigned under the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said, “Let everybody be forewarned that those who are still into the illegal drug business should better think twice already.”
“Obviously his previous assignments became really ‘popular’ because of his war on drugs,” he explained. “The assignment already tells us that the war on drugs will be further pushed here in Bacolod City.”
The law enforcement official previously made headlines following high-profile deaths in jurisdictions he led, including Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog in 2017 and Rolando Espinosa, mayor of Albuera, Leyte, in 2016.
Both were allegedly involvement in illegal drug activity.
However, Lacson stressed, Espenido’s assignment was not his call but a decision by the Philippine National Police (PNP).
“[You] should not be afraid if you are not into [the] illegal drug trade,” he added./DGB, WDJ
