MassKara Festival 2019
Law enforcement to intensify border controls
By Dominique Gabriel G. Bañaga

Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) director, Police Colonel Romeo Baleros, yesterday announced they will be intensifying border control operations ahead of the upcoming MassKara Festival in Bacolod City. The law enforcement official said intensified border controls are part of their support for the Bacolod City Police Office as a means of preventing criminals from entering the province, specifically in the city.
The NOPPO head said they will set-up checkpoints along the city’s points of entry and exit.
Following the recent seizure of P1.4 million worth of shabu in San Carlos City earlier this week, Baleros said they are looking into strengthening the province’s ports.
He added, the request to create a K-9 unit to conduct baggage checks for passengers visiting Negros Occidental via the province’s seaports has been forwarded.
Baleros said he hopes every port will have a minimum of two K-9 units, one specifically trained to sniff illegal drugs and another for explosives./DGB, WDJ
