The Department of Health-Region VI (DOH-6) recently revealed the number of dengue cases in the region has fallen below the epidemic threshold. According to DOH-6 epidemiologist, Dr. Glen Alonsabe, “I hope that this will continue.”
“Naganubo na nga naganubo na ang aton mga kaso since sometime first of week August (The number of cases in the region have been in decline since the first week of August),” he added.
The regional official affirmed they will not be lowering their guard with regard to the viral disease but stated every province in the region has reported a decline in dengue cases.
Alonsabe added, the outbreak status cannot be withdrawn due to an earlier national declaration.
As of September 21, the DOH-6 Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit reported a total 49,130 dengue cases, along with 215 deaths.
Meanwhile, DOH-6 medical coordinator, Dr. Rosemarie Lamirez, said they are continuing to procure logistics and commodities, including mosquito nets and insecticide./WDJ
