According to the Bureau of Immigration (BI) an Indian national, who was working as a cook in Boracay, was arrested last week after it was found he had overstayed his visa and did not have proper work documentation.
BI-Intelligence Division Acting Chief Fortunato S. Manahan, Jr. identified the alien as 42-year-old Vincent Joseph Mondal, who was employed as chief cook at the Namaste Indian Restaurant, located beside the Boracay Public Market.
“He is an illegal entrant as he did not undergo inspection by immigration authorities when he last arrived in the country,” the bureau official stated.
Upon further scrutiny, it was revealed Mondal had previously overstayed an earlier visa before and was placed on a blacklist six years ago.
He is currently being processed for deportation.
Last month, four Indian nationals were apprehended in San Carlos City. The illegal aliens, identified as Manjot Singh, Mandeep Singh, Boota Singh, and Gurpreet Singh, were brought to the bureau’s attention after receiving complaints regarding alleged ‘5-6’ lending activity.
BI Intelligence Officer Jude Hinolan, who led the arresting team, revealed Mandeep Singh was found to have overstayed his visa, while Manjot Singh faces deportation for harboring an illegal alien.
“Under the immigration act, to harbor, employ or give comfort to overstaying or illegally staying alien in the country is a serious offense,” Hinolan explained.
The other two were discovered in a nearby community and were unable to show any valid documentation//WDJ
