Roldan Aldea of Kabankalan City failed to clinch the World Boxing Association-Asia lightweight championship after earlier falling via unanimous decision to Ravshanbek Umurzakov of Uzbekistan at the RCC Boxing Academy in Ekaterinburg, Russia.
Umurzakov was the aggressor early on as he unleashed a flurry of punches after catching Aldea on the ropes. The Filipino fighter was later knocked down by a solid hit by the Uzbek.
Despite the early knockdown, the Negrense boxer tried to keep pace with Umurzakov. Midway in the bout, Aldea was able to connect with his punches, mostly to Umurzakov’s head but the Uzbek fighter responded with combinations.
The judges scored the bout 98-91, 97-92, 98-91.
With the defeat, Aldea dropped to a 14-8-1 win-loss-draw record, including eight stoppage wins; while Umurzakov stretched his unbeaten record to 10-0-0 with seven stoppage wins./ASC, WDJ
