Three volleyball players from the Western Visayas were named to the 16-player squad set to compete at the Southeast Asian Grand Prix 2019 from September 20 to 22 in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. Ilonggo players Abigail Maraño and Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, alongside Jovelyn Gonzaga of Guimaras, will be suiting up for the team.
The three are also expected to join the Philippine roster for the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), which the Philippines is hosting later this year.
“Ang pag-consider sa akin na i-include sa pool napakalaking bagay na para ma-boost ulit ang morale ko since naglaro ako ng SEA Games noong 2017 (Being considered and included in the pool is a big deal because it will boost my morale since I have not played since the 2017 SEA Games),” said Gonzaga, who is coming back from an ACL injury that kept her off the court all of last year. “Malaking bagay kasi SEA Games yun and dito pa sa Philippines iho-hold (It’s significant because the Philippines is hosting this year’s SEA Games).”
Also named on the roster were Alyssa Valdez, Kalei Mau, Madeleine Madayag, Roselyn Doria, Alohi Robins-Hardy, Iris Tolenada, Ejiya Laure, Mary Joy Baron, Frances Molina, Julia Morado, Mylene Paat, Dawn Macandili. and Kath Arado./ASC, WDJ
