Iloilo City sidewalk vendors who were displaced due to the ongoing clearing operations nationwide will be charged a rental fee once they relocate to the 2,700-square meter lot along J.M. Basa Street.
While Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) head Jeck Conlu confirmed speaking with the owners of the property, he was unable to quote how much vendors would be charged.
According to the city official, the amount has yet to be finalized but said it will be “somehow minimal.”
Conlu noted, the relocation site is only temporary as the city government is currently planning a long-term solution for displaced sidewalk vendors.
Earlier this week, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas announced displaced sidewalk vendors, who are said to surpass 1,500 in number, will each be eligible to receive P5,000 from the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
“We are doing an inventory of all affected, numbering to more than 1,500,” the mayor said.
He said the funds were procured during his time as Iloilo City lone district congressman./WDJ
