About P15 million worth of suspected shabu was recovered last Saturday in a buy-bust operation at the Islamic Center in Bacolod City’s Barangay 31. According to City Drug Enforcement Unit chief, Lt. Colonel Leonardo Borromeo, the subject of the operation was a certain alias ‘Tata,’ who managed to evade arrest after discovering he was dealing with an undercover police officer.
However, the suspect’s nephew, Ahmad Eballa, was arrested after authorities recovered around a half-kilogram of suspected shabu from his possession.
Borromeo believes the big bulk of drugs they recovered was intended for distribution during this year’s MassKara Festival, which formally kicks off next month.
Earlier, Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) confirmed drug personalities in the city may be stockpiling illegal drugs in preparation for the festival.
BCPO spokesperson Police Lt. Colonel Ariel Pico, said drugs are in demand particularly during festivities as some revelers use illegal drugs to stay awake.
He said the department has since stepped up monitoring in order to intercept any drugs being smuggled into the city’s entry points./DGB, WDJ
