Station closed on Monday, scheduled to reopen on Sept. 19

After the Diocese of Bacolod earlier declared a “temporary closure” of DYAF Radyo Veritas-Bacolod, citing a memorandum signed by station manager, Rev. Fr. Jonas Sumagaysay, blaming the closure on their financial reserves, DYAF radio broadcaster Rommel Pido claimed he and his colleagues received “inhuman” treatment due to the closure.
In a letter penned to Negros Press Club President Chrysee Samillano and Diocese of Bacolod Bishop Patricio Buzon, he claimed there was no prior notice given by either station management or the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
The radio personality noted, he, along with several other DYAF radio personnel, plan to file a protest before the National Labor Relations Commission and DOLE.
The closure memo noted, management would be seeking better solutions to their financial issues as the closure, which became effective last Monday, is expected to run for one month, reopening on September 19.
Meanwhile, in the event management decides to extend the closure, separation pay will be provided including other mandatory monetary benefits.
Watchmen Daily Journal tried reaching out to Fr. Sumagaysay over the issue but he has yet to comment as of press time./DGB, WDJ
