According to the local Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Bacolod City, voter registration in the city is down by 42,000 from the number that registered for the May 2019 midterm elections. Bacolod elections supervisor, Atty. Mavil Majarucon-Sia, explained the 42,000 were deactivated after failing to vote in both the last election and the May 2018 polls.
Despite voter registration dropping from 312,000 to 270,000, the elections official believes the number will go up as registration is currently ongoing until September 30.
She added, they have received a total of 2,800 applications, along with 525 registered voters who are pending a signature.
“They were notified to update their record [with] the Comelec because, if they fail to do it, they will be deactivated from the list,” Majarucon-Sia pointed out.
She added, another registration purge will take place in October for voters who have died or transferred registration, corrections, and new applications./DGB, WDJ
