Benilde suffers first loss
De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde was dealt their first loss of the ongoing 95th NCAA men’s basketball season after recently falling 74-71 to Lyceum of the Philippines University at the San Juan Arena.
Jaycee Marcelino top-scored for Lyceum with 23 points, while Mike Nzeusseu added a double-double off 17 points and 16 boards.
After a hotly-contested first half, Lyceum broke away in the third quarter behind Marcelino and Nzeusseu and built their largest lead at 68-48.
However, in the fourth period, Benilde forced Lyceum to commit numerous turnovers, allowing them to narrow the gap to 74-70 following two free throws by Clement Leutcheu.
Benilde then had multiple chances to close the deficit but Yankie Haruna and Jimboy Pasturan both misfired their attempts, while Chris Flores drained one of his free throws and secured the win for Lyceum./ASC, WDJ
