Along with the Energy Development Corporation (EDC) recently announcing plans to ensure Negros is powered by “100 percent clean, reliable renewable energy,” officials have also guaranteed, through their efforts, “stable and reliable power” on the island.

“EDC geothermal power plants ensure that Negros consumers get stable and reliable power in the island while the power supply agreements that the four [electric cooperatives] have with us ensure competitively-priced power rates,” explained EDC-Negros Corporate Social Responsibility head Norreen G. Bautista.

She also noted the impact their geothermal plants are making on the environment.

“More power from geothermal energy would mean a low carbon island for Negros, which is consistent with both Negros Oriental and Negros Occidental’s goal for their respective provinces and is crucial to fighting the climate crisis.” The EDC official explained.

“Our vision is for Negros to be the first island in the Philippines to be 100 percent powered by [renewable energy],” Bautista added./WDJ
