The San Miguel Beermen tied up their 2019 Honda PBA Commissioner’s Cup best-of-seven finals series against TNT KaTropa with a narrow 127-125 win in Game 2 earlier this week at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
After squandering a 17-point lead in the first half, the Beermen gained control late in the second overtime period with free throws from June Mar Fajardo and a fast break layup by Chris Ross for a 126-122 edge with 16 seconds left. KaTropa then managed to cut the deficit to 126-125 off a three-pointer by Jayson Castro but a free throw by the Beermen’s Chris McCullough made it a 127-125 count before Castro missed two three-point attempts at the buzzer.
McCullough finished the match with 32 points, 22 rebounds, and seven assists; while Terrence Romeo drilled six triples to end up with 29 markers; Ross tallied 25 points, Alex Cabagnot scored 19; and Fajardo contributed 12 markers.
Game 3 begins tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the Smart Araneta Coliseum./ASC, WDJ
