Local labor group, the General Alliance of Workers Association (GAWA), recently urged the Yanson clan that runs Vallacar Transit Inc. (VTI), parent company of the Ceres bus liner, to end their ongoing conflict as it is inconveniencing the riding public.
According to GAWA Secretary-General Wennie Sancho, if the conflict is ended, there is a chance the union may cancel their planned strike.
“A resolution of this issue would put an end to the speculations of a paralyzed transportation,” he added.
Earlier, Philippine Agriculture Commercial and Industrial Workers Union National President Hernane Braza revealed plans to file a strike notice before the National Conciliation and Mediation Board and Department of Labor and Employment in Bacolod City. Despite the union recognizing ousted company president Leo Rey Yanson as the head of VTI, the union official affirmed they would have demonstrated regardless of who sat as company president, citing cases of union official harassment and violations to “economic provisions.”
Additionally, Sancho warned, if the situation between the two sides get worse, their actions could affect thousands nationwide./DGB, WDJ
