Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas recently issued an executive order naming the fixture replacing the old Iloilo Freedom Grandstand as the Iloilo City Freedom Grandstand.
Located along De La Rama Street, in the City Proper’s Barangay Muelle Loney‑Montes, the new structure was completed ahead of this year’s Iloilo Dinagyang Festival, which took place in January.
The facility sits on 2,600 square meters and has a seating capacity of nearly 2,000.
Ahead of construction, the planned facility was met with resistance after informal settlers in the area were requested to vacate. Their subsequent lawsuit against then-Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog and the Task Force on Anti-Squatting and Illegal Structures was later dismissed./WDJ
