The San Miguel Beermen scored a 98-84 win over the NorthPort Batang Pier last Sunday in the 2019 Honda PBA Commissioner’s Cup quarterfinals at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
After seeing their 17-point edge trimmed to 82-81 midway in the fourth period, the Beermen surged to a 90-81 edge on an inside hit from June Mar Fajardo and back-to-back triples from Chris McCullough and Arwind Santos. The Beermen then went on to deny Batang Pier’s offense as Fajardo converted a three-point play, along with McCullough hitting another outside shot, re-establishing their largest lead of 98-81.
McCullough finished with 24 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and four blocks; while Chris Ross added 18 points; and Fajardo scored 11.
The win negated NorthPort’s twice-to-beat incentive, forcing a decider on Wednesday./ASC, WDJ
