After Patrolman Joerick Ace Ilisan of the Pototan Municipal Police Station was earlier caught drinking while on duty, along with threatening harm against his commanding officer, Police Regional Office-6 (PRO-6) director, Police Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan, vowed “prompt action” be taken.
“It is rather disturbing that a police officer would behave that way and dare to attack his own commander,” the PRO-6 official stated. “I will be very particular about punishing police personnel who remain incorrigible, recidivism (sic), and those who are callous [and] continue to disregard the disciplinary measures of the organization.”
“As police officers, we are obligated to be above reproach,” he added. “Otherwise, how can people trust us to protect them? There is absolutely no excuse for bad cops—I have zero tolerance for that.”
Last week, PRO-6 camp duty officer, Police Major Nazer Canja, caught Ilisan drinking inside the police station, alongside Police Corporal Esil Peñarubia. The two had taken off their standard blue Philippine National Police shirts and, when ordered to put their shirts back on, Ilisan wore the shirt inside-out.
Following the incident, Canja contacted Pototan Municipal Police Station commander, Police Major Ronnie Brillo, who then confronted the officer in question. Ilisan responded by holding his service firearm, a 9mm Taurus pistol, and allegedly threatening his commanding officer by opening fire outside the station. The events prompted the Iloilo Police Provincial Office-Special Weapons and Tactics Team to arrest the officer.
Ilisan currently faces charges of grave threats, along with administrative charges./DGB, WDJ
