Negrense wins first gold for PHL

Romanito Maravilla National High School student Ann Katherine Quitoy earned the first gold medal for the Philippines over the weekend in the ongoing 2019 ASEAN School Games in Semarang, Indonesia. The Negrense athlete captured gold in the girls’ javelin throw.
“She deserves it,” said head coach Addy Arca. “She worked hard for it.”
The coach added, the win was “extra special” as Quitoy was coming off an injury.
Meanwhile, fellow Negrense athletes Bernalyn Bejoy and Trexie dela Torre also medaled after winning silver medals in the 400-meter hurdles and girls’ long jump, respectively./ASC, WDJ
