Local officials laud Pacquiao win

Negros Occidental officials expressed their pride after Senator Manny Pacquaio defeated American boxer Keith Thurman yesterday morning (PHT).
Both Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer extended their congratulations to the senator on behalf of Negros Occidental with the former, via text message, noting, “Our 40-year-old ‘Pambansang Kamao’ shows the resilience and fighting heart of every Filipino.”
Meanwhile, Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia forwarded a statement, calling the fight a “no contest” after Pacquiao knocked down Thurman in the first round.
“We knew what was going to happen next,” he said.
According to data forwarded by the city government, around 15,000 people watched the fight at the eight viewing areas set up across the city.
Aside from the free viewing areas, several establishments also hosted “pay-per-view” events.
Following the win, Pacquiao said he plans to fight again in 2020./DGB, WDJ
