The Iloilo City government will be conducting a tree planting activity this weekend, July 13, where some 7,000 seedlings are expected to be planted as part of a flood control project in Barangay Buhang, located in the city’s Jaro district. Trees will also be planted along Circumferential Road.
“Tree planting is [a] mitigation [tactic] against climate change,” explained Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas. “We will undertake [a] sustainable tree planting program.”
According to Executive Assistant for Environment Armand Dayrit, seedlings include fruit-bearing trees.
Meanwhile, the mayor is also speaking with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and Department of Agriculture on identifying tree species ideal for propagation./WDJ
