Kaya FC-Iloilo is set to meet Ceres-Negros FC this afternoon in the 2019 Philippines Football League (PFL). The regional rivalry often referred to as the “Visayas Clásico,” a takeoff of the revered El Clásico between La Liga’s FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, kicks off at 3:00 p.m. at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.
The match could determine which club sits atop the PFL standings. Kaya FC is currently in first place on 16 points, ahead of second place Ceres-Negros FC at 13 points; additional, the Negrense side has one game in hand. If Ceres is successful, they could occupy first place with a superior goal difference.
“Kaya-Iloilo and Ceres-Negros is an interesting game knowing that it’s a battle between first and second,” said Kaya FC head coach Noel Marcaida. “The Negros and Iloilo match is always a rivalry—it’s called the Visayas Clásico historically for a reason.”
The Iloilo City-based side is coming off a scoreless draw against Green Archers United.
“We will keep the same intensity as we have brought in the previous games,” he added. “We have to improve on our mistakes [against Green Archers United]; it is not enough that we hold our opponent scoreless, we also must score.”
Meanwhile, Ceres FC will be entering with fresh legs as their prior match against Stallion-Laguna FC last Saturday at the Biñan Football Stadium was postponed due to inclement weather./ASC, WDJ
