Three Filipino boxers will feature in the undercard fights ahead of Senator Manny Pacquiao’s World Boxing Association super welterweight championship bout against American boxer Keith Thurman on July 21 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada in the United States.
According to boxing news source Boxing Scene, Genesis Libranza, Jayar Inson, and John Leo Dato will be part of the much-hyped sporting event.
Libranza, who was supposed to face Carlos Buitrago during Pacquiao’s previous fight against American boxer Adrien Broner last January but was canceled after the Nicaraguan fighter failed the weigh-in, will fight an eight-round flyweight bout against Mexican boxer Carlos Maldonado. Meanwhile, Inson, who lost his earlier Pacquiao-Broner undercard fight against American boxer Jonathan Steele, also faces a Mexican opponent in Mahonri Montes.
For Dato, who will feature in a six-round featherweight bout, he faces off against Mexican boxer Juan Antonio Lopez.
Earlier this month, Justine Fortune, strength and conditioning coach for Pacquiao, said the boxer is training smarter.
“He’s good [and] doing proper now; he’s training himself right [and] slowing down when he needs to,” he explained. “We’ve been fighting a lot smarter and training a lot smarter.”
“He knocks out [Thurman], he’ll do a fourth in December, then he becomes ‘Fighter of the Year’ again,” the coach projected./ASC, WDJ
