Negrense martial artists Margueritte Therese Cala-or recently won two medals at the 20th Milo International Open Karate Championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Bacolod Tay Tung High School athlete captured gold in the kumite division, where athletes spar utilizing particular techniques and skills, in the -35 kg individual girls’ category; along with taking silver in the kata competition, which presents specific movement patterns and choreography, in the 10-11 years old individual girls’ category.
“[Cala-or] is one of our talented athletes,” said Tay Tung team manager Jose Montalbo. “With proper training, she will have a bright future in karate.”
Cala-or has previously won medals at Batang Pinoy; Negros Occidental Private School Sports, Cultural and Educational Association; and Philippine Sports Commission competition./ASC, WDJ
