A 22-year-old woman was killed Sunday afternoon after she was reportedly shot by her father at a boarding house in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.
Police identified the fatality as April Mae Ege, a resident of the city’s Barangay Kalindagan.
Based on information provided by the victim’s lover to police, the suspect, identified as 54-year-old Police Staff Sergeant Levy Ege, arrived at the victim’s boarding house drunk. A heated argument then ensued between the two, which escalated to the elder Ege drawing his .45 caliber pistol and shooting his daughter in the head.
The younger Ege was killed on the spot, while the suspect immediately fled the crime scene.
The assailant was later arrested during a follow-up operation carried out by the Dumaguete City Police Station.
Dumaguete City police chief, Police Lt. Colonel Greg Galsim, said they believe the incident was a case of “accidental firing” as several witnesses claimed they saw the victim attempting to wrestle the gun away from her father.
The suspect, meanwhile, denied allegations claiming he was inebriated at the time of the incident and said he “deeply regrets” the incident.
The elder Ege faces parricide charge and is detained at the Dumaguete City Police Station./DGB, WDJ
