San Beda, Lyceum open with wins

San Beda University and Lyceum of the Philippines University opened the 95th NCAA senior men’s basketball season with wins over the weekend at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. San Beda began their campaign with a 59-46 victory over the Arellano University; while Lyceum scored a come-from-behind 84-80 victory over Colegio de San Juan de Letran.
Following a low-scoring and tightly-contested first half, San Beda broke away in the third period behind Donald Tankoua, James Canlas, and Evan Nelle to grab a 43-35 lead and eventually earning the win.
Tankoua tallied double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds for San Beda; while Canlas added 10 points, seven rebounds and two assists.
For Lyceum, they faced a seesaw battle throughout the first three quarters.
After Letran took a 76-71 lead late in the fourth, Jayvee Marcelino led Lyceum on a run to come from behind and take the win.
Marcelino led the victory with 24 points, six rebounds, five assists, and three steals; while his twin brother Jayvee added 18 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Meanwhile, Jerrick Balanza contributed 24 points, six rebounds, and five assists./ASC, WDJ
