Treñas: Returning workers will take precedence over new hires

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas recently announced he would rehire casual workers who were terminated under the administration of his predecessor, former Mayor Jose Espinosa III.
He explained those returning to City Hall would take precedence over new hires.
“Ang akon subong concern, pasudlon ta anay atong ginpagwa nila (My current concern is to bring in the employees the Espinosa administration removed),” the mayor explained. “After nga mapasulod ta na ang napagwa, then we start talking about new job hires (After those who were removed are back, then we can start talking about new hires).”
However, Treñas was unable to confirm how many are expected to come back.
He said, if he is able to acquire the appropriate funding, he would deploy workers to the Iloilo River Esplanade and various plazas across the city to respond to reported incidents of vandalism.
After assuming the post of Iloilo City mayor, Espinosa explained his plans to “streamline” city government personnel.
“Ang redundancy tan-awon gid (You can really see redundancies),” he explained. “They should be worth the people’s money.”
“We want to see to it that government money is not wasted on [non-performing job hires],” the former mayor added./WDJ
