LTFRB-6: Taxis must utilize meters
By Dominique Gabriel G. Bañaga
In response to complaints filed by travelers claiming taxis, particularly those operating in and around Bacolod City’s Bredco Port, were overcharging, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board-Region VI (LTFRB-6) Director Richard Osmeña recently advised transport operators against such a practice.
In a radio interview, Osmeña said taxi operators must use their meters and warned those who violate LTFRB fare regulations may face penalties, including a P5,000 fee.
He confirmed receiving a complaint from a group based in Bacolod City and vowed to personally investigate such incidents.
The LTFRB-6 official assured a “fast resolution.”
Meanwhile, Osmeña acknowledged pedicab operations are also allegedly overcharging passengers; however, he noted, LTFRB is not the lead agency when it comes to such vehicles and that it falls under the jurisdiction of the city government./DGB, WDJ
