After the Iloilo City government has been working with the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc. (IDFI) and Parish of San Jose de Placer in organizing the annual Iloilo Dinagyang Festival for the past several years, along with other city celebrations, Iloilo City Mayor-elect Jerry P. Treñas confirmed he will be installing new management citing the outgoing organizers’ “style.”
“It is about time that we organize a foundation that will handle Dinagyang and other festivals of the city,” he said.
He confirmed the new organizing firm will be called the Iloilo City Festival Foundation Inc. and that he has been conducting initial talks with individuals to form the group.
With regard to IDFI currently conducting workshops for choreographers, musical directors, among other expected to participate in next year’s festival, the incoming mayor refused to comment and affirmed the change is “non-negotiable.”
Earlier this year, IDFI conducted a nationwide tour promoting Iloilo City, with the first events taking place at Robinsons Place Angeles and SM City Pampanga.
The performances comprised of 25 dancers and 15 drummers.
According to IDFI chairman Ramon Cua Locsin, the annual festival “brings a message that Iloilo City, as its host, is a nice place to visit.”
The festival also visited Baguio City during the Panagbenga Flower Festival and continued on to Guimaras, Bohol, Davao City, Dumaguete City, Bacolod City, and San Carlos City./WDJ
