Kaya FC-Iloilo managed to fend off Mendiola FC after winning 6-3 last Wednesday in the 2019 Philippines Football League at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila. Kaya striker Jordan Mintah scored a hat trick with the win, while fellow forward Eric Giganto secured a brace.
Mendiola midfielder Aaron Altiche opened scoring early, putting the Manila-based club up 1-0 in the third minute. However, Mintah swiftly leveled things in the 11th minute.
In the 22nd minute, defender Shirmar Felongco gave Kaya a 2-1 lead, which was the same score at the end of the first half.
Quickly into the restart, Giganto scored his first goal in the 47th minute, putting the Iloilo City-based side up 3-1.
Mendiola soon pulled one back 10 minutes later with defender Ashley Flores making it a one-goal deficit.
Giganto then earned his brace in the 60th minute, putting the Ilonggo club up 4-2.
In the final five minutes of the match, Mintah helped Kaya pull away further, scoring in the 85th minute. The goal then received a rapid response from Mendiola midfielder Allen Angeles, who scored in the 88th minute. A minute later, the Kaya FC striker affirmed their sizable 6-3 victory.
